With alcohol related violence on the rise, the NSW government have introduced a new set of laws to try and curb alcohol related violence in Sydney's CBD and surrounding hot spots.

The new laws will ban bottle shops from selling alcohol after 10pm and stop licenced venues servicing alcoholic beverages after 3am. In addition, there will be no entry or re-entry into clubs and pubs after 1.30am.
NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell explains the new laws:
I am pleased to see the Government putting measures in place to address the issue of violence on our streets, but it concerns me that the new laws may just be moving the violence out into the streets, potentially into an uncontrolled or unpatrolled environment.
I absolutely support the new restrictions on selling alcohol, but question if the lockouts are necessary.
I believe that tougher laws should be implemented to discourage 'one punch attacks' and alcohol related violence, because, in my opinion, unless the violent person is held responsible, these attacks will continue to plague our streets. NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell states that the new laws will see minimum mandatory sentences of 8 years for those who assault, causing death under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Is 8 years enough for taking the life of another? I am not convinced.
In my opinion, tougher laws are needed to curb the violence on our streets. Image Source: www.freedigitalimages.net 'Handcuff Stock Photo' by nixxphotography
What are your thoughts on the new laws? Do you think they will help curb alcohol related violence on our streets? Please share your thoughts by leaving a comment.
I agree it is just moving the problem rather than stopping it. Most of the latest attacks occurred on the streets outside the pubs and clubs. Imagine what it will be like when all these people are sent out at the same time. They will be drunk and angry about being kicked out and violent attacks may become even more common! 8 years in jail for taking a life is nothing.
